James Carithers

Obituary of James Gary Carithers

James Gary Carithers, 73, of Naples, Fl, entered his heavenly home on February 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren.

James, fondly known as Jim, was born to Daniel and Amy Carithers on June 10, 1950, in Athens, GA.  Jim grew up in Clewiston, and was a graduate of Clewiston High School’s class of 1969.  After graduating, Jim enlisted in the US Army.  He proudly served the United States of America from 1968 – 1971, and he bravely fought in the Vietnam War. During his time in the US Army, Jim was awarded many medals, which include a Bronze Star and an Oakleaf Cluster.  He was always proud of this country, and he served with great pride.

After the war, Jim returned to Clewiston and began a 30-year career with United States Sugar Corporation.  He began his career as a draftsman before becoming the Director of Field Services.  Not only did he work for United States Sugar Corporation, he was also a residential contractor.  While in Clewiston, he built many custom homes.  In his spare time, Jim enjoyed bass fishing; he spent many hours on Lake Okeechobee.

In 2004, Jim moved to Naples, Fl, to live closer to his children.  Once settled in Naples, he opened South Florida Builders and Design Inc.  There was no project too large or complex for Jim; he was extremely talented.  Jim enjoyed spending time with his son, building nearly anything they could think to build.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Amy Carithers.

Jim is survived his children, Lori Carithers Patel (Vimal) and James D Carithers, both of Naples, Florida.  Jim was a loving “PAPO” to his grandchildren, Erica Rudd, of Naples, Fl, Morgan Rudd, of Tampa, Fl, Chase Hall and Caden Hall, both of Naples, Fl.  Jim was extremely proud of his great granddaughter, Mila Jade Sanchez, of Naples, Fl.  He is also survived by his sister, Patty Carithers, Hixenbaugh (Charles), many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Jim's family will host a memorial service on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, 438 E. Sugarland Hwy., Clewiston, Fl 33440.  Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a service immediately following at 6:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love during this difficult time.  Your thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement have meant more than you can imagine.  From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all.
