My earliest memory of my grandmother (Grammy, to those in the inner circle) was her reading to my siblings and I over our home landline on speaker-phone. The first one I recall clearly was the first Harry Potter book, although I think there were earlier examples of the 'Grammy audiobook service' (smaller selection than Audible, but much better narration quality in my humble opinion). The three of us would sit perched precariously on the one home office chair in our house, listening to the stories before eventually we all could read them for ourselves. I have no doubt these many hours over the phone instigated what's become a permanent love of stories, of constantly exploring new ideas and worlds, of learning through quiet contemplation of literature. For that, and so much else, thank you Grammy. Love you <3

For a long time, every time I would come over to visit the Tindles, I would walk through the front door and feel lovingly greeted by the faint sounds of an audiobook coming from Grams’ room. It always warmed my heart. And when Grams would eventually emerge from her adventurous stories, she would always, always ask me how I was doing and what I’d been up to. I feel so lucky to have known her, and to be a person who gets to celebrate who she was. I’ll be rereading The Three Musketeers and thinking of her with all the love in the world xx

I was just thinking about your house in Louisiana, that we all went to so much growing up. I have memories in every room in that house. I remember the uncomfy couch in the guest room, and the your roseary that hung on the wall in the master bedroom. All the sheets had huge, dark, floral patterns on them. The soap in the bathrooms had a super distinct smell, I would recognize it anywhere. The living room was cozy, and I remember christmases packed with presents and people, the smell of your house and the VHS tapes lining every wall. The yard where we would rough house, play with nerf guns and climb trees. I always knew we were arriving to your house when we turned onto that back street that led to the backyard. It's been so nice to reminisce, and think about so many lovely memories that were made in your home. Love you, Grammy <3

One of my earliest memories is of her singing in her church choir, and while I never knew or understood the words, I could have spent all day listening to her. She had many roles in her life, but to me, my siblings, and cousins, she was always Grammy. Grammy was quick to wit and sarcasm— I’d like to say that’s where my family gets our charm —and faster to love, which she led with for as long as I can remember. I could say my favorite memories with Grammy were from eating Poboys in New Orleans, a city that quickly became my home away from home, or listening to her read Harry Potter to me for the first time (always the fourth book, never the first.) But I would be lying. My favorite memories with Grammy were always around the dinner table: cutting cranberries for cranberry muffins, discussing current events over dinner, or passing the sweet potato casserole on Thanksgiving.
I love you and miss you Grammy. I know they have all the fixin’s in Heaven, but there will always be a seat at our table for you. ❤️
