Obituary of Donna Lou Storter

Donna Lou Storter Long, age 75, resident of Ortona, Florida, passed away December 1, 2023, at her home following a battle with lung cancer and joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The daughter of the late Vance Lee Storter and Birma Montine Wamble Storter, Donna was born July 8, 1948, in Fort Myers, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Birma Sue Storter Bowers, brother Stanford Lee Storter, son baby Howard, and stepson Jeffrey C. Long.  Donna is survived by her husband John Curtis “JC” Long, sons Lonnie V. Howard (wife Vanita) and Thomas G. Howard (wife Diana), and stepdaughter Juliette C. Long along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Donna grew up in LaBelle and Ortona, living her entire life in Hendry and Glades counties.  Throughout her career she held employment in office management and financial accounting.  Her latest and most fulfilling work was serving as a county commissioner of Glades County, Florida for the past 20 years (2004 – 2023) where she also served on other civic related boards. She loved her home and felt honored to serve the residents of Glades County. She was determined, passionate, and fought fiercely for what she believed; serving the community was not a job to her, it was her calling and privilege.

Donna enjoyed spending time with friends and family.  She loved seeing old school friends at high school reunions, playing cards with her grandchildren, and getting together for Sunday dinners with the family.

Final services for Donna will be held at Ortona Cemetery pavilion December 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM.
