Glen Fox

Obituary of Glen David Fox

Glen David Fox, age 72, of Fort Myers passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 after a brief illness at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers surrounded by his family and friends. Glen was born July 25, 1939 in Saltillo, TN to John C. Fox and Paris M. (Averett) Fox. In Glen's younger years he was fascinated with repairing, building and racing cars. His first race car was a 1931 Model A, painted black, and named The "Hustler" and was raced in Buckingham on the old air-strip, winning many races. There was nothing he couldn't tear-down, repair or build. In 1968 Glen opened "Glen's Wrecker and Body Shop" with a wrecker made from scraps of old trucks. Then in 1985, with his wife Marianne, they formed Alligator Towing and Recovery Inc. located at 4871 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. The name Alligator was picked out by their son Kevin. Glen and Kevin own a 85 Ton Rotator Jerr-Dan Wrecker, one of the largest in Florida. Kevin surprised his dad with special features on the wrecker, painted it bright yellow and named it the "Gator-Tator". Glen just shook his head and smiled. This was a man of many words and lots of friends. Glen will be sadly missed by his friends, the towing business, law enforcement and fire departments in the area and by his many homeless cats. Glen is survived by his devoted wife, Marianne Fox and their son, Kevin Glen Fox, along with sons: David (Denise) Fox, John (April) Fox, Keith (Nicole) Fox, daughters; Dana (Michael) Sullivan and Joy (Randy) Langford, numerous grandchildren, brothers in law; John Gunn and Ricky (Pat) Gunn, sisters in law; Judy (Buddy) Singleton and Cindy (David) Brashear, nieces; nephews and many devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 21 year companion; Little Buddy. Services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012, 12:30 pm at First Christian Church of Fort Myers, 2061 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, Interment will follow at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at First Christian Church Of Fort Myers. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Animal Refuge Center, P.O. Box 6642, Fort Myers, FL 33911 or to your favorite animal rescue. Glen's family hopes that everyone will come to the service dressed as they would if they were visiting him at the shop.
