Obituary of Vernon James Leake

Vernon James Leake, Sr., age 88, of Fort Myers, passed away January 28, 2015 at his home. He was born Jan. 25, 1927 in White Oak, MD, to the late Carlton and the late Nellie Jane (Potter) Leake. He retired from Howard County Department of Corrections in Jessup, Maryland in 1986. He was known by many people in the Baltimore, Washington D.C area for his musical talents, guitar picking and beautiful singing voice. His greatest joy was playing with the Spiritual Echoes in various churches in many states. He is survived by his loving wife: Shirley Lee (Reed) Leake, Vernadene Cheryl (Leake) Greene, Sheena Doreen Gilbert (Dale E. Gilbert), Vernon James Leake, Jr., Willard Carlton Leake, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and brother, Robert Milton Leake, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Lee Leake, four sisters; Evelyn, Hazel, Faye, Pearl, two brothers; Charles and Raymond. A celebration of life with Military Honors will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2015 with visitation 30 minutes before service and continuing after the service until 8 p.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, 13932 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33905 with Dr. J.
