Dick was a very god friend I met in Howick Hall, Ball State. I visited him in Bowling Green and he visited me in Anderson, IN. I was the quiet study guy, Dick was the confident jock. Our friendship was more than unique, it helped me deal with an extremely abusive family situation and our talks, laughter and brotherly harassment really did let me know I was better than I had been taught. I learned of Dick's passing when looking for him to say Thank You and that he remains a positive for me all these years later. As a cancer survivor, it's not fair Dick didn't. My sincere appreciation of Dick and thoughts for all his family are all I can offer...and hope this message reaches you.
Peaceful blessings,
Jerry Pettitz

I was very much saddened upon hearing of the passing of Dick. As a kid, the Gibson's were our neighbors on Cherry Hill Drive, and I recall their 3 sons, as we also, had 3 boys. It could be quite a mix. Dick is a good guy, and always will be. Out of sight, but not out of mind. Gone, but not forgotten. He will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best. We all go to a better place, some just get the privilege of arriving first and showing the rest of us the way . . .

I can see Dick clear as a bell all covered up with mast and coveralls spray painting the new addition to Scotty's Pub circa late 70's.
Dick had an outrageous sense of humor. You would seek him out when you were feeling poorly...that 1000 KW smile would bring you back...
I am so reminded how much I need to show love for my friends and family on a daily basis...There is no "Some Day Isle".
My family sends their prayers.

Cynthia, Bob, Gibby, and Doug,
My mom always said it would be the worst thing to have your child pass before you! I hope I never find out.
Well, I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could provide some type of comfort at this time. The best thing I can say is this, I remember his big grin, and silly humor, and all the ribbing he use to give me when he worked at the Liquor store. His fish stories, and David and I would come in to bust his chops over something silly, and boom he would give it right back and then just give me that big grin. You know I wouldn't miss being there to visit with you and celebrate his life but we have to be in N.C. for a wedding this weekend.
You have our love, heartfelt sympathy and prayers.
And Harrison asked if it was skillet-heads brother?(Gibby)!
Hap, Marcy, and Harrison Personett
P.S I miss you all.

Hi Marcia, Jesse and Tanner,
I haven't seen you for a long time but when I saw that huge grin in the paper I was so sad to read that Dick had passed. He had the best smile in the world, and I hope you can take some comfort in the wonderful memories that you have of him. We will be in N.C. this weekend for a wedding, but I wanted to extend my wishes of being there to join the celebration of his life. I will always remember Dick his great humor, and feel very fortunate to have known him.
Kindest regards, and our prayers,
Hap, Marcy, and Harrison Personett

Marcia, Jessie, Tanner, Mr and Mrs. Gibson, Doug, and Dave- I was deeply saddened to hear of Dick's passing recently. Dick was always a great friend and confidant. Dick and I both came to faith in Christ one week apart in July of 1975. Knowing he is with the Lord gives me great hope in the re-union thats coming one day. May God give all of you great grace at this time and in the days ahead.

Childhood: as little kids playing with darts in the backyard; throwing darts up in the air. One of the darts came down right on top of Dave's head and stuck there, straight up. Dave went running in the house screaming, thinking he was going to die.
High School: coming of age; Dick's competitive spirit and good times.
Recent: trip to Fish-Eating Creek a few years ago for bass fishing, then out to feed the cattle in the pasture. So wish I had been able to get Dick up to Alaska for an outdoor adventure. That was on my list.
Goodbye good friend.

I am sorry for your loss, Marcia, Mr. and Mrs Gibson, Doug, Dave, and the rest of the family. I have lots of great memories with Doug and Dick from football and summer baseball. My prayers are with you all during this time of loss and sorrow. Dick was always a prince of guy---positive, enthusiastic, attentive, hard working, humble, a team player, dependable, and I read also a man of faith. I am so happy to hear that. I always think of Dick when I see a football number 22.
God's grace, strength and peace to each of you,

The Gibson boys were my first charges as I began babysitting them in Bowling Green, OH. We had some lively times together, and I am so sorry that Dick was taken so young.
May God be with all of his family.
