Obituary of Joseph Dennis Edgar

Joseph Dennis Edgar, Sr. 1942-2022 Joseph “Dennis” Edgar, Sr. 80, of Parrott, Georgia passed away from this world into the arms of his Heavenly Father at Four County Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Facility in Richland, Georgia in the presence of family on November 19, 2022 following long term health conditions. Dennis was born on February 24, 1942 to Willie Lewis Edgar and Sara Elizabeth McPherson in Winnsboro, South Carolina. Dennis graduated High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina class of 1959. Following graduation, he went on to study at Lee College, Cleveland, Tennessee. After his time at Lee, he went on to begin his career with Florida Power and Light in LaBelle, Florida as a lineman and retired after 20 years. Dennis was also a dedicated Christian and loyal member of the Church of God. After answering the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he went on to begin the Internship program with the Church of God and successively acquired exhortership, licensing and ordination as a pastor and bishop with The Church of God. Dennis began his ministerial career pastoring his first church in Haleyville, NJ 1985-1990. He also pastored LaBelle Church of God (Associate Pastor) LaBelle, Florida 1990-1991, Lane Avenue Church of God Jacksonville, Florida 1991-2001, Turning Point Church of God Clewiston, Florida 2004-2010 and Alva Church of God Alva, Florida 2015-2017. Dennis met Mary Lu O’Bannon Edgar while attending Lee College. They married in 1961 and went on to have four children. Joseph Dennis Jr. (Denny), Daryl DeLance, Julie Elizabeth and Sara Margarite. Dennis and Mary Lu celebrated 61 years of marriage in February 2022. Dennis was predeceased by his father Bill Edgar, mother Sara Edgar, wife Mary Lu Edgar, daughter Julie Edgar, brothers Bob, Larry and Glen Edgar. He is survived by son Denny (Cindy), son Daryl (Marsha), daughter Sara (Dennis), brother Mack. Grandchildren: Carrie Jo (Scott), Brandon (Tina), Zac, Blake, Shelbi and Tripp. Great Grandchildren: Blake, Daniel, Izaac, Scott (Boo), Paul Russell and Colt. Dennis (Dad/Papa) lived a good, long life. He was a good provider for his family and encouraged each of them and others to love the Lord and serve Him well. He is missed, yet we celebrate his life lived here and the one that he eternally lives now. Praise and glory be to God!
