Obituary of Robert S Kirkwood

Robert Scott Kirkwood passed away July 29, 2021 at home in the arms of his loving wife. Born February 11, 1944 to Robert John and Elizabeth Marian (Scott) Kirkwood. He was predeceased by his parents, younger brother Ronald John Kirkwood and his son-in-law Robert Stumpf.

He leaves behind to cherish their memories his wife of 56 years Gloria Jean Kirkwood nee Banks. His sons Scott Michael Sr., John Richard (Linda) Kirkwood, his Princess Andrea Jean Stumpf; 4 grandsons Zachary Stumpf, Scott Jr., Spencer and Nicholas. 4 granddaughters Dakota Jean Stumpf, Jessica, Kayla Zanolli nee Kirkwood, and Meagan. 3 great grandsons Scott III (Trey), Christopher, and Jack Liam. His favored nephew Bill Alderman. Hundreds of cousins, nieces and nephews, and several dear friends. Let us not forget his faithful dog companions Eli and Tanya.

Bob was a Member of DAV Post 144, American Legion Post 130 LaBelle. He was a past member of Rotary ( He showed Andrea his pin and she said "Oh good, now you are a Rotary Public") Bob's passion was the DAV, a member for over 50 years. He served as Treasurer for many years.

Bob laughingly said he had more careers than most people had jobs. He was a gas station Mechanic, Factory Worker making rolls of paper backing for sand paper, Machinist, Union Steward and Foreman for Myers Snowplow, Truck Driver for Shell Oil, Owner/Operator mobile home Truck Driver for Morgan, Machinist and Welder in a Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory, Owned and sold or repaired mobile homes.

He received a degree in Electronic, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Technology.

He established Businesses and sold them: Mobile Home Sales and Service, Movie Rentals, "Footsteps" Advertising, Computer Sales and Service and TV Service.

Bob taught Basic Electronics at a High School in NC. He taught Basic Electronics and Radio & TV Repair at Lee Vocational.

Bob's hobbies were wide and varied: boating, fishing, water skiing, computer games, drones, racing computers with steering wheel and foot pedals, building and upgrading, programming and troubleshooting computers, stock car racing, lawn mower racing fun with families. (He loved the kids racing).

Bob designed and contracted a forever home and installed all the low voltage wiring for wifi, networks, antenna, security and Alexa.

Bob was a caring and gentle husband, a strong father and role model and a King to his Princess Andrea. Bob was an optimist and his hearty laughter will be remembered by all.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday August 14, 2021 at the American Legion Post 130, LaBelle from 2 to 5 PM with Pastor McGougan officiating.
