Obituary of Richard Wayne Crawford

Richard "Dickie" Crawford, age 63, of LaBelle, passed away March 13, 2011, in LaBelle. He was born May 11, 1947, in Philiadelphia, PA,. son of the late Clarence Crawford and Margaret Crawford-Jones. He was a longtime resident of the Ortona and LaBelle areas. He graduated from LaBelle High School in 1966. Right out of high school he served in the United States Army. After returning from the military, he worked for the Florida DOT until 1975 when he started working for the E.R. Jahna- Ortona Sand Mine and retired from there after 35 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his loving, faithful wife Edith "Betsy" Milam Crawford. Survivors include his brother Robert Crawford of LaBelle and sister Patty Crawford-Kendrick of Oregon, along with two daughters: Nancy (James) Tanner of Estero, and Susan (Benjamin) Long of Cape Coral and five grandchildren, Bryce, Alexis, Bubba, Connor and Sara. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He will truly be missed by many family and friends. Funeral services will be held 3:30 pm on Thursday, March 17 at Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle with Rev. Jim Lanier officiating. Interment will follow in Ortona Cemetery, Moore Haven. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle. .
