Obituary of Donald Cartner

Donald W. Cartner Jr., of Fort Myers, Florida, previously of Raytown, Missouri, left this physical world at his home surrounded by loved ones on May 15, 2018 at the age of 71.

Don was proceeded in death by his parents Donald W. Cartner Sr. and Ann Josephine Kovachevich Cartner. He is survived by his wife Alice Cartner of the home, son Eric Chatman Cartner, his wife Sarah and granddaughter Hannah Kathleen of Raytown, MO, step daughter Heather Barker, her husband Dax and grandsons Dominic and Zade of Gardner, KS.

Don proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a M.A.R.S. radio operator in the United States Army 1st Calvary Division.

In 1980, as an electrical engineer, Don began Westport Research Associates based in Raytown, MO. He successfully operated it until he retired in 2015 so he could dedicate some time to fishing in Florida.

Don was an avid fisherman, car and boat enthusiast, inventor and world traveler.

Don lived his life with heartfelt love, compassion, generosity, courage and most of all, humor.

He will forever be remembered and loved by not only his immediate family, but by numerous friends and his extended family who dubbed him "Uncle Frog".

Cremation services are under the direction of Akin-Davis Funeral Home in Ft. Myers, FL.

Celebration of Life services are pending and will be held in Fort Myers, FL and in Raytown, MO. Interment will be scheduled at the Sarasota National Cemetery Sarasota, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Hope Hospice, Lehigh Acres Team, who compassionately cared for Don.
