Biography

Alfred Edward Vadasz, age 95, passed away July 22, 2010 peacefully at home in Clewiston, Fl. Alfred was born to Alexander and Susan Vadasz in Blairmont, Ohio on November 27, 1914. Alfred was the eldest of ten children.

Alfred was a World War II veteran serving in the Famous 2nd Armored Division under the leadership of General George Patton. He was awarded seven major battle stars and fought in the following battles: Algeria-French, Morocco, Northern France; Normandy, Sicily, Tunisia and Rhineland. He was awarded the American Defense Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Normandy Medal.
He retired from U.S. Sugar as a field mechanic after 38 years. He was a longtime member of Community United Methodist Church of Belle Glade, Methodist Men, Official Board, and a loyal church usher; BPOE #1716 and American Legion.

He is survived by wife of 68 years, Lurah Marvine; daughters, Karen Corbin of Belle Glade and Karol Stewart (Jerry) of Royal Palm Beach; grandchildren, Micah Kelly (John) of Lodi, Ca., Courtney Courson (Gary) of West Palm Beach; great grandchildren, Chase and Chandler Courson, Corbin Kelly; step-grandchildren, Michael and Justin Kelly; sister Irene Swonger of Canton, Ohio, several nieces and nephews and his beloved buddy Parker.

Alfred was preceded in death by brothers, Andy Vadasz, John Vadasz, Bill Vadasz, Carl Vadasz, sisters Ann Chiofolo, Sue Bauman and Mary Herwick.

Services will be Monday, July 26 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00 am in the Akin-Davis Funeral Home in Clewiston, Fl. Burial with military honors will be in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clewiston.
